We often release podcasts as enhanced podcasts. These files have markers set in them at the track divisions, but the entire podcast remains a single file.
Enhanced Podcast .m4a files can only currently be played in Apple compatible players such as the iPod or iTunes.
The iTunes "Now Playing" bar will display the name of the track currently playing in the podcast.
There is a dropdown button just to the right of the now playing bar that will display a dropdown tracklist and allow you to skip directly to any song.
The lower left corner of the iTunes window shows a small preview of the track album art. Clicking on the art will display the full artwork in a separate window.
Playing the podcast on an iPod will show vertical track markers in the progress bar. Pressing the fast forward or rewind buttons will take you to the next and previous chapter instead of switching to another audio file.
If you download the podcast through a subscribed podcast feed, such as through the iTunes store, when you press the center button on the iPod to go to the track "position in current audio file " screen, the name of the currently playing track will be shown just above the current position tick mark.
